About Cool 1 Art

“Cool 1” is a neighborhood nickname from back in the days when I was drawing caricatures of everyone I knew. Later on (1973), in the days of Bobby Orr and the big bad Bruins, I painted a panorama of the old Boston Garden during Garnet “Ace” Bailey’s dramatic goal to win game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals in 1972. John Donnelly, the director of the TV 38 broadcasts, saw me walking around the Garden with the painting, and got the players to sign it. He put me on TV with Tom Larson to discuss the painting. After that, I did a couple of paintings of Bobby Orr, and Mr. Donnelly arranged for me to meet him twice in the B’s dressing room and present the paintings to him. As a thank you, in 1974 I painted the behind the net panorama of Orr’s famous goal, and gave it to Mr. Donnelly. I painted those almost completely from memory almost 50 years ago, and in those days, art prints were unavailable to small businesses. But those days have changed, and I have been able to get paintings scanned and even refurbish them for fading and damage, making possible not only prints, but also puzzles and t-shirts and other gift items. A more recent nostalgic painting of the old Garden being demolished, is also available. Also in the early 70’s I produced the four Beatles’ portraits (also given away) but scanned years later for prints.

Together with my son Dan, who is the essential website-business end of this enterprise,

we are Cool 1 Art.
